Our story
Hi! My name is László Hunor and I have a passion for Csíkszereda. During my visit in the US, as I was 10.000 km away from my hometown, it made me appreciate even more the uniqueness of our region. My journey in graphic design began three years ago when I discovered Illustrator through YouTube tutorials. I finished a Masterclass and developed a love for branding, marketing design and screen printing.
The name Ciucago is coming from the combination of Ciuc - Chicago, an expression that has been present in our community for some time. The term was originally used as a sarcastic reference to our small town, but it became popular and eventually evolved into a slang term. Nobody knows who came up with it but it was funny and catchy. In early 2020, the idea for the brand was born, with the goal of creating quality products that showcase the beauty of our region while in the same time building a community around the city and its amazing people.
The very first order was 5 black hoodies with a simple white logo type on the chest and one on the back. The concept was to have a minimalist style, unfortunately due to a misunderstanding they printed a huge one on the back as well. The whole order was a complete failure. After a few washes it began to shrink, the writing tipped and the textile started pilling. It just wasn’t the quality we dreamed of so then the search for a better supplier started. After dozens of sent emails and phone calls, a friend gave a tip about Anon Collective, an art-design studio located in Cluj Napoca. True professionals when it comes to branding, screen printing.
Despite the initial setback, our vision received a lot of support and encouragement. In November 2021, working together with the studio another order was placed, this time a batch of white t-shirt with the logo type on the front and the woodslice design on the back. With this design, we aimed to raise awareness about the importance of taking care of our forests. Happy to say, the Pine Tees were a success and quickly sold out. Each piece found its owner and we’ve seen our products all over the world, from Chicago, US, across Europe, to the magical streets of Csíkszereda. We didn’t look back ever since and can’t wait to show you all the fresh designs and ideas for the upcoming orders.
It’s been a fun journey to grow the brand in the last two years and we look forward to what the future holds. The next chapter has started and we’re grateful to have you with us!
